Deep thinking

Post by Jason on 28th March 2010, 9:47 pm

This morning in church I began thinking. Really thinking. It was when we started singing "Open our eyes Lord". (The song goes "Open our eyes Lord, we want to see Jesus. To reach out and touch him. And say that we love him. Open our ears Lord, and help us to listen. Open our eyes Lord we want to see Jesus.) This simple but powerful hymn really got me thinking. I've been going to this church for around 10 or 11 years now. I have a lot of the songs we sing memorized. This one included. But it's not very often that I really think about the words that I'm singing. But this morning, my eyes opened a little wider. I began really thinking, and I'm hoping to work harder on furthering my relationship with Jesus.

I also began to think about other things that I know pretty well. I used to be into pokemon. And even though it's been a few years, if someone asked me to list the three legendary bird pokemon, or the legendary pokemon of the sea and sky and land, I could do it. (Articuno, Moltres, Zapados. Kyogre, Rayquaza, Groudon.) The thing is, its been a long time since I really played pokemon, and I still know those things. It stays with you for a while. Then there's all those people who can quote movies, and TV shows. I'm not saying that its bad to be able to do that, but how much time does it take to memorize things like that? Is that much time also being put into other things, like memorizing scripture? Helping others? Telling others the good news? This is something I've been thinking about and deciding I need to work on a bit....

This is just something that has been roaming my mind, and really stuck out in my mind this morning. I kinda felt the need to share it with you guys. What are your thoughts?

Yeah, thanks for posting that because lately I've been thinking about my relationship with Jesus and what I can do about making it deeper. I've also been think about what I do and if Jesus likes it. I've found that sometimes I have my view more focused on worldy things then on Godly things. I'm trying to change that and with God's help I can.

I love that hymn, it's a really good one.

You know its really not that hard either if you just spend 10 or 15 minutes a day in prayer and in the Word, Life will become easier as your mind aligns with God and your heart with his. Then as Mr. Alan would say... "Were not just involved in a physical battle but a spiritual one as well."
