687:The Green Ring Conspiracy, Part Nine

Post by Marvin DeSanchez on 10th May 2011, 12:53 pm

Have you heard it? Listen, and review!

Episode Nine

So, yep, Jason’s the Stilletto. But why? What he up to? This conversation is very interesting. First, Monty’s safe, which is mainly what Whit cares for. Huzzah, let’s move on to all the stuff we *really* wanna know about. Who cares about Monty? *lie lie lie* Ahem. But Monty is not so interesting! What’s Jason doing?! And why will he tell Whit? Because stuff could go wrong, duh. Oh wait, that really could happen...
Back to Mr. Annoying Accent. That’s Buck to ya. He goes down to his phone—er, actually, Mr. Dirt Bag’s—and demands to know why it’s hooked up to some computer. Maybe it’s just me, but right then..it seems like Buck isn’t technologically advanced. I mean, he knows about them, but he’s really not into them. Maybe I’m reading into it too much, but that’s what it came off like to me. And then, his whole “love, trust, and friendship” line makes me feel...sick. It’s just so nasty. But then the computer beeps, and the background music just makes the scene feel right.
Finally, the talk we’ve been waiting for comes. It starts to answer a lot of questions. When Jason went “Maybe you don’t use the same travel agent you do,” does that mean he was placed in the situation? Then we find out about Mr. Grote and all the counterfeiters to scam America. And as usual, how come all the big stuff wind up here? First Novacom, now this. It’s a little clichéd. Odyssey should be known to vanquish whatever comes its way. Voila! And then we find out about Tanner. All she is the late-comer, who acts like she’s in total control. She played a really good role, I’ll say. Adios, Lauren Tanner! And then, we find out about Dirk. He’s also a little-time thug. It’s really not hard to keep track of the “labyrinth of lie”, at least for me. Nonetheless, I’m glad that Whit is still being himself, by not wanting Jason to lie too much, but the chemistry between him and Jason isn’t as good as the one between Monty and him. I don’t know if it was awkward for the actors, then...How do you pray that a deception works? Jason’s answer was pretty good. Just keep the truth separated, even if you’re in gray territory. I’ve had to do that before.
Then we go over to Connie and Penny (who’s meditating). It’s so...stupid. Penny meditates on a crack. I mean, while some of her philosophy makes sense, you can do that *without* meditating. Really. But Connie pretty much falls for it all. Trask comes in, and his voice makes me creep...Valuable addition? To the counterfeiting team? And then they start to mediate and look at...tarot cards. Tarot? Satanic! God is in all, and so forth. Blah, blah, blah. And all Connie goes is “Oh.” And then they appeal. APPEAL? D’you mean pray? *shivers* The whole thing was just so spooky...it’s a miracle worse things didn’t happen. And Connie doesn’t do anything? She sits there throughout the whole appeal. Crikey. What should have happened was that Connie could have yelled like she’d done earlier, and let Trask kick her out then and there.
Back to Whit. Lily plays the role of a protective nurse pretty well, as she doesn’t want Whit to come with all his “cops and robbers” stuff. Perfect line for a not-so-up-to-date nurse. She doesn’t want to know about it, and then guilt-trips Whit into not coming. And after she does that, she tries to soften up and be nice. And then Whit needs to go and tell a lie for the truth to come out. This is interesting. He sticks to the truth and lies only when necessary. But the...sneer? Really? *facepalms* And then, Buck was at the site where Monty was kidnapped, and it seems that Buck could have handled the backpack. He’s gettin’ himself deeper and deeper into this...one lie leads to another, then another. And then, Polehaus seems to have more faith in Whit’s guys than his own guys by telling Whit to let Eugene and the others detain Buck. Interesting. With more info on the Ross compound, and a truck pulling in, I started to feel that this was winding down.
Jay was watching the counter—more like, eating—and was waiting for them to come. “I couldn’t trust him any farther than I could throw him. I’ve been worki—” Another win line from Jay, who recently won the favorite character of the ToO in all the new albums. Go, Jay! And then Whit closes down on Buck, from the phone, of course, and Buck comes up with the excuse that he doesn’t remember his password. Lame. Seriously, Buck fails at playing the evil role too well. He wasn’t made for it. And...we find out about the Stiletto by the password. What would have happened if Dirk threw the password off by putting only one t in Stiletto? I just wonder what Buck would have said then. Everything seems to be coming down to a little conclusion. When Katrina yelled, that was so unlike her. That so did not sound like her. Buck naturally runs for his life, but everyone is closing in on him. Jay makes another great line with knowing how to use an ice cream scoop. He shoulda fired. Really. And then everyone comes to grab Buck. Whit, Eugene, Matthew, Jay, and everyone pretty much surrounds Buck. It looks like one criminal down, even if Buck isn’t so guilty.
Is it just me, or is there some music that they always use for Skint? It always came on when he had a scene, as it was here. Or maybe I’m just batty >_> Wouldn’t be the first time. As usual, Skint has a little evil plan. Special coffee? Neighborly thing to do? Oh, jeeze.
In the next scene, Connie ends up giving a little rant about Trask’s class (say that ten times), but she needed to yell to make her point. And Penny just asks for her fries. Please, not another Wooton. DIE, WOOTON AND PENNY. DIIIEEEE! And then Penny just switches the subject again. I think she really doesn’t have any answers for what Connie thought about.
I think that this was pretty much Polehaus’s applauding Whit when saying he was good in catching bad guys. Polehaus just can’t make himself say thank you or good job very well, I’ve seen. Some people are just like that. Martin, though, is sleeping on duty. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt your nap!” he goes sarcastically. But really. Could Martin be that thick-headed? Even I know better than that! Of course, just Odyssey to let the mystery drag out. *sigh* THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY has occurred! Polehaus did do a pretty nice job of returning the coffee mug for clues.
And the moment comes. Does Skint abandon Buck in his time of need? All he says is that they’re using Buck for bait. Typical. That’s what you’d expect of Skint. Ready to save his own skin. What else would you expect?
Archie and the Stiletto talking together seem...fake. Both voices sound out of place, and I can’t get used to it. It makes me feel out of place. Jason asked a few too many questions to get information. Really. He’s got to be smarter than that. Sometimes, things just seem out of place for the drama’s sake. Pretty much everything seems kind of spooky here. And then Archie dials someone and we see...that Jason needs to be totally removed. Not good whatsoever.
This episode gets a 8/10 rating mainly because of the cheesiness at points and the other minor details I posted earlier. I think everything’s been toned down for younger kids, even a major mystery, which has slightly disappointed me. I’ll live, though.

Whit nervous about Jason getting caught in all theses lie? That line just kind of ruined it.

Not really. It was reasonably within Whit's character. Jason's worked for the NSA for a while, but this is different. And Whit is just showing that he genuinely cares about Jason.

And that was how Whit normally is-never wanting to lie. That made it realistic, actually.
